Today marks a week since I was visiting a client onsite, and had a chance to meet a gentleman, Adil Dalal, who is working on an intriguing project as an Adjunct Professor for St. Edwards University.  Long story short, Mr. Dalal was briefed about my social media networking experience from my client.  We hit it off well and I was informed about a fascinating project in regards allowing nature’s lessons to lead inviduals and companies to greater levels of personal and professional success: Nature University.

I touched base with Mr. Dalal and he invited me to speak to the class of professionals for about 15 minutes.  I was quite impressed with my initial review of the site from a design, layout, and usability factor; however, there were a few areas of improvement in regards to adding language translations, a countdown clock, social media and good real-time tracking metrics.  Little did we know that 15 minutes would turn into 1 hour and 45 minutes of intense engaging conservation in regards to putting together an executable social media strategy, including a real-time metrics tracking system.   So what did we come up with? Cherole’s Cakes and Catering, Inc. has created an online presence to help serve customers with their food selections as well as showcase their 20+ years of unparalled professionalism and customer service.

Problem
Pretty easy: Did not have a web presence, but was looking for a simple solution that gave thecompany a professional look and feel and matched the level of quality  the company has been providing to customers down through the years.

Solution
The unique look and feel, and branding was accomplished with the use of dynamic images on the homepage that refresh everytime the page is reloaded.  In addition, we utilized Shadowbox to give it much of a web 3.0 type of feel when viewing the contact us form, about us page, and photo gallery.  All in all, Cherole’s now has a competitive caterer’s web presence as she looks to increase the customer base throughout the Greater Austin area.

Well, I recently wrapped up another project: www.enriquevgarcia.com!  It was quite an interesting project in regards to genealogy and the software, Brother’s Keeper

Problem
The end user was in need of a website that would allow him to update the following: personal interests, family history via Brother’s Keeper geneaology software, and general information about events as they happen.

Solution
Since the user had purchased hosting via Bluehost.com, we chose to spec this project and meet his needs utilizing WordPress.  He wanted a simple site and not much design in regards to the “look and feel”.  That said, we chose to utilize Patrick Chia’s Ester theme and modified it somewhat in regards to personalizing the picture frame.  There are close to 10 different pictures that randomly appear on a page load or refresh.  Overall, this functionality project was a quick-turn project.

Little did we know at the time that of our initial conversing, his true reasoning for building the site was Read the rest of this entry »

This past weekend I attended my first ever BarCamp here in Austin, and what an amazing experience it was for me. BarCampIVAustin, a part of the SXSW Interactive venue, is geared towards bringing together individuals from various backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, and allowing for great synergies and collaboration. In a sense, it was like a ’show and tell’ of businesses and business ideas, but with a much more engaging platform to “group brainstorm”. I definitely walked away from this experience with many ideas for my businesses and clients.

How It Worked
So from 10AM - 9pm, there was a wall with paper taped to it.  On the paper were 15 and 30 minute timeslots for 4 different rooms across the time.  There was no agenda besides persons taking stick notes (as show below) and filling in time slots with subjects they wanted to present or know more about.   Each person(s) would present and would interact with the viewing/participating audience.   Some great sessions were presented today.  From how to find a job to how to network to how to a business setup shop in 21 days!  I myself didn’t participate just due to the fact that I needed to learn the ropes as a ‘rookie’. :)  But you better believe I’ll be back and ready to present next year! ;)

Some of the notable companies presenting that I was impressed with were: Read the rest of this entry »
